Natural Learning: Friends, Fun, and Freedom
Our Pre-K to Kinder Class, for children ages 4 1/2 through the 5th year, provides the time and space for young people to engage with the outdoors, move their bodies and make friends. We meet each day in the afternoons from 1:00 to 4:00, Monday through Thursday. This program brings much-needed balance to children’s lives at a time when the pandemic has profoundly limited their activities.
With nearly an acre of land on the Johnson Creek Watershed, we provide ample space to connect with and enjoy the natural world. Every day children learn and play in our gardens, playscapes, and wooded areas. Our daily rhythm includes a welcoming community circle, nature-based art activities, natural science learning opportunities, gardening, physical free play, story-telling and singing. We weave seasonal celebrations throughout the year, deepening children's connection to the cycles of nature.
Children at Little House enjoy nature play and discovery in every season and in all weather. Outdoor schooling builds stamina, resilience, and a lasting reverence for the natural world. Because we are outdside year-around, children come dressed for the elements. We’ve constructed numerous shelters, an activity building, and an open-air classroom. We have a heated/open air space for stormy and very cold weather. We look forward to guiding your child in nurturing, natural, joyful learning.
